Nanyo-City Cultural Center – The World’s Largest Wooden Fireproof Concert Hall

Yamagata Prefecture’s Nanyo-City Cultural Center is the world’s largest wooden concert hall. The basic architectural philosophy is that of a “Creative hub of the arts and culture for citizens and which is meant to encourage a variety of cultural exchanges.”  This innovative concert hall features locally-grown cedar used in the building’s structure as well as finished material that people touch. The Main Hall features a dynamic and warm quality of wood using state-of-the-art fireproof wood technology. An excellent level of acoustic performance is the result, which accurately and purely reflects the precise sounds of musical instruments. Yamagata Prefecture is happy to introduce to the world such high levels of acoustical performance, comprehensive safety for concertgoers and attractive earthquake-resistant technology.
